Good Morning Ladies!
So this time last year I was about 6 weeks away from meeting my sweet little terror that now is running around my house with a pan in his hand. This time last year I was complaining about how I didn’t get ten hours of sleep and how my pubic bone hurt. (seriously!) I was really starting to waddle and I doing all the research I could so that nothing could surprise me about this labor business.
Well… that’s the thing about labor is if you’ve never done it before its daunting to know HOW to prepare for it. And it’s absolutely normal to feel anxious, in fact my mother in law still will tell you to this day that even her 7th baby (YES SEVENTH) she was nervous. So it’s okay! Today I have compiled a list of everything that I had packed a year ago and how I will pack with baby number 2. I will tell you the list is going to be quite a bit different and I’ll explain why after!
**Before I start this I want to mention that I planned doing an unmedicated vaginal birth.** Therefore, I had TWO bags a LABOR BAG and a RECOVERY BAG.
BEFORE DAXTON LABOR BAG:
– Long Scarf for the Hip Squeeze for Labor HERE is a link for some of the Rebozo Pain Relief Techniques if you’re interested.
-Essential Oils- Orange, Lavender
-ihome to play music and my iphone loaded with music to help me all the way
-snacks like oreos, cheezits and gatorade
-epsom salts for a bath
-labor technique booklet
BEFORE DAXTON RECOVERY BAG
-Boppy nursing pillow (THIS THING gah. Biggest pain in my butt ever and it took up so much room.)
-3 Changes of clothes for Daxton
– 2 Changes of Clothes for me (jeans and maternity shirt)(what a joke!!!)
-Nursing Tank Tops
-Full Makeup like everything…
-Toothbrush, make up remover, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel
-Cute boy short Undies
-Daxton’s crocheted blanket
OKAY… WOW. So now what would I bring and do differently?
I would throw my labor bag away. A lot of people made me feel like everyone does it natural their first time with no epidural; honestly I found more women DO get epidurals than not. If you still feel strongly about doing a natural delivery (which I TOTALLY DID) then pack a labor bag. Odds are good though your hospital will be stocked with great coping things that you may need.
Okay so for baby number two what would I really bring?
-tight leggings (the counter pressure feels really good) NO JEANS!!!!!
-comfy sweater here are some great options! Here This one is amazing too and finally this one. You can follow me at @larissa_woo on instagram for more items too!-
-postpartum wrap I wore this one for about a month and helped me have a little more support.
-a few makeup items (NOT MY WHOLE BAG) like tinted moisturizer, and mascara (seriously)
-heating pad (yeah you know those period cramps you haven’t had to have? They come back FULL FORCE like 10x worse after you have a baby and every time you nurse them.)
-Take home outfit for baby
-Empty bag to get all my free stuff that I’m paying for from the hospital
-Soothies for your nipples if nursing
-Nursing tank I still wear these, my child is nearly 11 months I LOVE THEM. I didn’t pay more than $10 for them so wait for a sale if you can!
What the hospital SHOULD GIVE YOU and what YOU SHOULD ASK FOR:
-Witch Hazel Pads
-5 Pairs of Undies (just stock them up)
-Hospital Pads like 3 or 4 for home
– Two extra packs of Newborn diapers (again just stock them up)
-socks with grippies
When I got home from the hospital I used one of the little buckets they gave me to take home and I made myself a little kit for beside the toilet that had everything I need to keep my stitches clean, and everything dry and comfortable. I would suggest you do the same. Mine Included:
-Hospital pads (they’re HUGE)
I hope this helps I know that was a ton of information but honestly do not stress! There are people to help you all along the way!
