So today I wanted to talk a little bit about a capsule wardrobe and why I think it’s great to build one even though you may not want one! First, it’s great to have a wardrobe where all your clothes work and fit together like one cohesive piece. Whether you have 10 items or 25 items it’s great to know that whatever you put together works this takes a lot of the guesswork out of your clothing when you get dressed in the morning. Second this is great for p a c k i n g to go on a trip you’re only able to fit what you can take and you don’t want to take everything! A mini capsule wardrobe allows you to be chic wherever you’re going! Third, I notice that even though I may have like 4…okay 5 striped shirts I really only have two that are my absolute favorite. This goes for just about everything in my wardrobe. Why do we all have so much extra? It’s okay to sell, purge and gift away the clothing that isn’t your favorite. Surround yourself with pieces that fit good and feel good. Surround yourself with clothing you can’t wait to wear.
I’ll start by saying when I would Pinterest “capsule wardrobe” I found that a lot of ones I would find I wouldn’t wear like the half the clothes. So if you’ve been following me for any number of weeks you’ll know I’m a jeans and t shirt girl through and through. I struggle to wear dresses and I find that when I buy them I don’t wear them. SO include in your capsule wardrobe clothing you’ll actually wear. Another thing I’d like to mention here is that your wardrobe will look different for each season. Plan accordingly. Here is kind of what my wardrobe would look like if I made it into a capsule wardrobe for the fall:
Four Pairs of Jeans 1 colored, 2 dark (one distressed and one not), 1 white jeans YES white Jeans see my post on white jeans for fall Two Items You Need for Transition To Fall
Four Long Sleeve shirts
Five short sleeve shirts
Two cardigans (one green and one cream)
Keds, over the knee boots, block heel booties, leopard flats
Two midi skirts
The possibilities with this list for me are endless. Pay attention to the “bones” of your wardrobe. In this case the bones are my jacket, and my jeans. I need to pick shirts that will complement the jacket and shirts that will go with all four pairs of pants. Make sure you have a variety in your shirts. I would choose some that button up, different fabrics (not just cotton) and some with a variety of casualness. (What if you wanted a night out or a date?) When it comes to my shoes I would choose a shoe that I could go to church in, I could run around in, and ones that I could dress up or down. Each of the shoes I have chosen 3/4 I would wear to church, 4/4 I could run around in, 3/4 I could wear on a formal date. Pay attention to what you do on a daily basis and pay attention to the shoes you grab time and time again. I hope this helps! Comment below and let me know what you’ve done do build your capsule wardrobe!
HOW TO BUILD YOUR VERY OWN WARDROBE STEP BY STEP:
1.) Take note of the Colors prominent in your wardrobe already.
2.) Create a color scheme of colors that work together for me it’s greens/reds/purples
3.) Then add your basic colors like white, gray and black
4.) Choose bottoms that allow you to have some flexibility, what does an average week look like for you? Do you go to church on Sundays? Or where Dress slacks to work? Or are you work from home mom?
5.) Same goes for your shoes! Choose shoes that go with more than half of the activities you like to do. Chasing kids, Church, Work etc.
6.) Lastly, Add accessories this is the fun part! Jewelry, hats, bags and even your makeup can polish an off an outfit! Take a chance I always add at least one completer piece to my outfit before I walk out the door!
