Hey! So school season is upon us and I may not have littles in school but I am still going to school for my undergraduate degree and it starts in a week! I’m excited to get back into the swing of things! Today, I wanted to share my top three must haves for staying organized, happy and successful when it comes to balancing, work, school and my family! Even if you’re not in school I use this system for my blog, for bills and regular everyday tasks that need to get done. Check it out!
1.) A clean work space that’s JUST for work. I know it’s hard to want to do the work in bed after kids go to bed but you’ll stay more organized and alert. The work you do, do will be better if you sit. It doesn’t have to be a desk but it should be somewhere where the distractions are free and the workspace is clear. Clear workspace, Clear Head.
2.) Next, a flat calendar! I cannot tell you how much this has saved me HERE is the one that I have. I use this calendar with THESE pens and everything is color coded. Blog posts are one color, school deadlines is another and everything for Daxton (like his doctor appointments) is another. Everything else like time with friends and date night is another color. This helps me stay on top of whats coming and helps me plan if I need to work harder earlier if one week is looking a little bit crowded!
3.) Good lighting is everything when you’re trying to work making sure that you can see and the light is bright helps keep you focused. Every time I try to do my work in bed or someplace low lit I start to feel sleepy. Oftentimes the work we do at at desk isn’t the most fun so we need to prevent feeling sleepy..zZZZZz
4.) A goal sheet hung up someplace you can see it. I want to mention here that goals don’t necessarily need to be words written out. When I was a body builder I hung my progress photos and photos of those I admired up to keep me motivated when things were challenging and I wanted to quit. Today I have a photo of my glamorous self at Halloween when I was young and a card from my mom; who is my biggest cheerleader and the card reflects her belief in me even when I struggle and fall.
5.) The very last thing is a grouping of things. When I sit down at my desk to do any sort of work I want to make sure everything I need is close and I don’t have to get up. Knowing me if I get up I get distracted. I keep the things I use most often on top and then the things I use less often in a drawer. On top items: Jar of Pens, Stapler, sticky post it notes and a Note Pad. In the drawer Items: Extra envelopes, Stamps, Highlighters, Check Book and Thank You Cards.
I hope this helps you get started with a great workspace to get everything you need done! Until next time friends!
