You guys. Everyone says they have the best dad. Growing up you idolize your parents, until you start to realize that they are just people like you, trying to figure out their lives while trying to look out for you. There were a few years where our relationship was really rocky; my dad always expected us to be honest and hardworking when I dropped out of school with a drinking problem I lied and got lazy. As you can imagine my dad was disappointed. I hated knowing that I had disappointed him and I’ve carried a lot of shame around with me about that time in my life. My parents separated when I was very young. My dad growing up would braid my hair and paint my nails, he cooked us nice meals, he took me shopping for clothes for school and sat down late at night to help me with my spelling and my math homework and even helped me get ready for school pictures. You can read about that one here. Now as an adult I know he always there when I don’t know how to do something like buy a car or put up a fence.
A couple of weeks ago I felt inspired to create something of my very own. I wanted to build these shelves, I had the skills from my dad to help me and my husband to guide me, I built them from inspiration from Shanty 2 Chic’s website. I think they came out really well! We used English Chestnut as the stain and I’m really excited to be able to display things of our family without fear that they will hurt Daxton!
My Dad always told me I could be anything I wanted. So today I decided I’m going to be brave and do new things. And you all can do new things too! Life is too short to sit around and think maybe tomorrow. NO. Seize. The. Day.
Thank you for reading!
